Sitting in the Dark - Holiday Traveling

Ever since I met my husband we have rotated which family we visit for the holidays. One year we will go to his families for Thanksgiving and the next year will be with my family. Of course, his family lives only 2 hours north of us but it's our little vacation and we still need to pack, especially with a family of 5! You never know what is going to happen....

One year it took us 5 hours...

Another year we made about 5 potty stops...

And you can't forget those late night drives...

You either love them or hate them. Personally, I love driving and seeing everything along the way. If I had it my way we would stop at every historical sign and "World's Biggest...." But since hubby drives most of the time he wants to get there with no breaks, no stops, no nothin'!

And packing is another story. We leave tomorrow after hubby gets home from work. I'm sitting here at 1am making lists! I'm sure I'm not the only one. But this time, the girls are going to the same school and their vacation times are in sync. So.... they have been home since Friday! It's twice as hard to get things done when they are home. Sometimes they like to help, other times I have to beg them (or bribe them) to help.

I took a break from life for about an hour today and headed to our local library where they had crafts day and we each made a little turkey that's going to be our centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner. Aren't they so cute, the girls had fun with glitter (so thankful that I don't have to clean it up).

But then had to get back to reality.
Here's what I got so far....

And of course it never fails that we forget something and it's something usually important right!

Tell me.... what is a must have for your holiday road trips?

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
