Family Fun - Don't say Hurry this Weekend!

You always know about events, you have so much fun with your girls, you get around... This is what I get told a few times a month from friends and family. One word: PLANNER!
I love my planner. I don't know how long ago it was, but I know it was after my father past away, that I began to enjoy life. It usually happens when something significant happens in your life and you see how precious and short life can be.

And if you are new to my blog I recently changed the name to "Don't Say Hurry." Because it was something my dad use to say when he had days off because he just wanted to enjoy his time off and enjoy his family. I kind of also made a commitment to myself.... if it was written down in my planner I was going to do it. So many times in my life have people let me down and left me high and dry even after they said they would help me or whatever the situation was.

So that is what I do now... I read the paper, I look on facebook, visit our local library and I see how much there is to do in the valley (it annoys the heck out of me when people say there's nothing to do here), and most of it is FREE! So I write everything down on a sheet of paper first then if I need to discuss it with the girls or hubby I do and then write down the things we ARE GOING TO DO!

I thought I'd share our plans for the week as well as share what other events are going on in the valley.... enjoy! Enjoy the weekend, enjoy your family and remember, "Don't Say Hurry!"

So much fun going on this weekend, it sucks to have to pick and choose. Friday is the most exciting for me.... BOOK SWAP! Alamo Library had a book sale, fill a bag for $1, but I missed it, so excited to attend this one (Harlingen Library). And also the Costco #MomHour! This is hosted by CityMomsBlog and RGVMomsBlog is excited to have the Pharr location participate! Hope to see you there (I'm a contributor). If you are attending or not check out this post to see what we love to buy at Costco!

I also wanted to share #HikeitBaby! They are doing another challenge this month, 30 miles in 30 days... visit for more information, but their goal is to get families, especially the little ones outside and enjoying nature. Here are some photos from a hike this week.
Also something that is happening year round are programs at the McAllen Nature Center. It's located at 4101 W Business Highway 83 in McAllen. We have attended many of their events, including the Night Hikes (along with HikeitBaby). All programs are Free, but they do accept donations. They are all volunteers and it's great to have a piece of untouched "forest" here in the RGV!

  • Costco #MomHour, A Holiday Shopping Event, hosted by CityMomsBlog and Costco! Happening at Costco in Pharr (and nation-wide), from 9-10am
  • Havana Nights @6pm, 415 W. university Drive, Edinburg, TX (Free)

Most of the events I have shared are Free, but click the links for more information including ticket prices and such! Let me know which event you are excited to go with your family or maybe datenight! If you have a (Free) event you would like to share just email me at dontsayhurry at yahoo dot com!

Next week I will be sharing recurring local events for you to enjoy with your family, so be sure to check back. Also, don't forget to like my Facebook page!

Also, be sure to visit your local library and support the events they have as well!

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
