Family Favorites: Our Top 5 Restaurants in the RGV + Giveaway! *Closed*

Before having kids, when it was just me and my husband we were living in Harlingen and we didn't have a car! Let me just tell you, it was one of the best times in our life! We had to walk everywhere, it was great.

Well, after a while life got boring. Not really life, but our food options just repeated themselves OVER and OVER. We went to McDonalds, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, Peter Piper (oh boy, we had lots of PIZZA!) and sometimes Church's!

After a few years, we moved back to Donna and I had a few different jobs all around the valley. I started eating at different restaurants when I didn't pack my own lunch and it was so much fun. Ever since then I love to try out new places and it bothers me, a tad to eat at the same places again and again. So whenever I hear of a new place opening up I can't wait to go try it. One of my favorites to try our fish/shrimp tacos. It kind of irritates my husband because he doesn't think it's enough food, haha.

After 10 years of marriage I don't think I've told him this story. Whenever he asks, "Where do you want to go eat?", I always say the same thing, "Let's try somewhere new!" I have this list on my phone that I turn to. Most of them are in McAllen, I need to add more. So if you have a restaurant that you recommend, please leave a comment below and I'll add it to our list! Come to think of it same goes for movies, I don't like to watch the same movie over and over again. Tell me I'm not alone.

HERE IS THE LIST.... We decided as a family on our favorites. It was a list of about 12 and we debated over the weekend and this is what we came up with. The list contains a bit of everything, sandwiches, burgers, oriental and a healthy option too. Scroll down to see why they made our list!

Texadelphia

Chick-Fil-A

Jason's Deli

Ting's Wok

Tower Burgers

 Texadelphia

Why: We are new Texadelphians, but we absolutely LOVE it! We have tried every CheeseSteak on the menu. There is always a special running and with 3 daughters we love their "Kids Eat for $1" special. The girls love to sit at the belly-up bar to watch the chefs at work as well as their "BigAssFan!"
Cost: You would want to visit for their cheese steaks and they can run up to $10 (and easily share). But don't worry, keep reading for a chance to WIN some coupons for a FREE meal! And follow them on Instagram, so you can see when extra coupons and specials pop-up!  Be sure to grab your Citizenship card next time you visit to to earn rewards, click the photo below to sign up.

Chick-Fil-A

Why: We love their customer service, food and their events. We attend their kid-friendly events at least twice a month. It's really hard to beat their amazing customer service. They know our girls by name and their food is a plus. Check out the fun they had on Earth Day! Keep an eye on their Facebook page for #Free food too! We love their beliefs as well.
Price: Honestly, my husband use to hate going to chick-fil-a, but he loves it now, especially how juicy their chicken is. His sandwich is about $7, but well worth the money. They make it up with all the free food we have gotten over the years. We use to not visit as often because we had to travel to Harlingen or McAllen, but now we have one in Weslaco, so we've cut down on gas too!
Location: 1200 N Westgate Dr, Weslaco, TX

Jason's Deli

Why: Jason's Deli is one of the few healthy options in the Rio Grande Valley. There are more salad and deli shops than there were a few years ago, but nothing seems to be as fresh as Jason's Deli. The girls love that there is Free Ice Cream and they love their pastas. Hubby of course, loves all the sandwich choices and I love their salad bar and usually get their Manager's Special. You can read about their FOOD and see that they even have Gluten-Free and Organic options.
Price: $5-$10 and their kids menu is under $5! Way more filling than a fast food "kids' meal"
Location:
1308 U.S. 83 Frontage Rd S., McAllen, TX

Tings Wok

Why: Honestly, it's never packed with people! If you know me, I do not like buffets, but their food is made fresh and in small batches. Customer service is awesome, never an empty glass and if we ever want something made fresh we just ask Mr Ting! He's great with the girls and love that they have several "Big Tables" since we don't fit in 4 person table anymore, lol.
Price: $8-$10 We pay about $35 and that's a plus for us. Well worth the great food and service.
Location: 901 S Jackson Rd, Pharr, TX

Tower Burgers

Why: Rewards, plus freshly made buns and angus beef burgers. There is also the Samburger (salmon), which is my fav and their desserts are to die for! They too have big tables and great service too. I'm seeing a pattern here, SERVICE is top priority, especially when you have children. Visit their Facebook page to see their specials and photos of all the yumminess! Oh and FREE FOOD on their Rewards card, see cashier to sign up!
Price: $10, Kids have two options Grilled Cheese ($4.50) or Kids Burger ($6.75). The girls love the grilled cheese, but I think it's because it's a treat for them.
Location: 505 E Business Highway 83, Alamo, TX

Honorable mentions: Jose's Cafesito (Weslaco), McAllen and Harlingens' Food Park, PJ Pies and Siempre Natural.

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
