Writer's Workshop- Not for Long

Last fall, when I started c25k, I was going jogging everyday after I dropped off Yvette at school. It was a great habit that I got going and was so proud of myself. This one day, after I was done I was so happy because I had ran for 5 minutes straight! I was over the moon! Then the day got even better because everything was working out for the #MAM in October, and I had just got off the phone with the police department and they okay'd the march. I was jumping for joy. I was still at the track at this time, so I grabbed the keys and started driving home.

I was literally dancing in my seat. Right at that second I didn't make a complete stop at a new stop sign in front of a school. It was a rolling stop. Then a few seconds later.... yup, a cop was right behind me and turned on his lights! HAPPY FEELING? GONE!

I was so bummed. So I pulled over and he walked up to me and I told him I was having the best morning. He didn't respond to that, just said why I didn't stop. I could have lied and said I was not from the area, but I was drenched in sweat and in my work out clothes. I still lied, but I should have just said the truth that it was a new stop sign and I forget to stop sometimes, I told him I didn't see it. Which was a lie because, I did and it was a rolling stop, so he knew I had seen it.

He gave me a ticket, FUDGE! And we were at a bad time financially, I knew we weren't going to be able to pay it. I DIDN'T TELL MY HUSBAND! I kept it from him for over six months! I went to go talk to the judge and got community service. My mom was with me, she knew and we agreed that I would help her at church, as she helps and volunteers for a few organizations, so I helped out for a few weeks.

Then a few months after that hubby found a copy of my hours and he was so mad! I almost got away with it!

  2. Oh man! If that cop only knew how disruptive that ticket was going to be for the next 6 months! That being said, we all make mistakes, people get tickets everyday...nothing to get too worked up about especially considering you worked it off.

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
