Day 2: Give

Day 2, Friday: Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)

Hmmm, I have so many things running through my head! First thing I can think of us carseat safety, but I'm not an expert, it just erks me when parents DO NOT take safety seriously and don't buckle their kids correctly and leave the straps all lose! Second thing is GMO's! Again, not something I know everything about and can be a touchy subject. Last thing is being nice and having a softened hard (vs a hardened heart). I've actually been reading a book about that. It's actually a marriage/relationship book, and no we are not having marriage problems, I got it free at the recycling center. There was a nice old lady recycling some books and called me over to ask if I liked to read and that I could take a few for my girls, as they were in the car with me. She was nice. Ohhh! I'm also reading another book about giving (review coming soon). I'll pick that subject!

GIVING....

       What is giving?

I like the 2nd meaning... "provide or supply with." Giving is a medicine that is not prescribed or practiced as much as it use to. Why? Does it cause illness? Does it cause depression? Does it make you feel like a MILLIONAIRE?! YES!!

Giving to others (wether they need it or not) causes oneself to feel emence joy, happiness and so much more! When was the last time you gave something of yourself freely without asking anything in return?

Giving can be as little as a penny to the old lady in front of you at the grocery store because she's digging through her purse because she's insistent that she has that penny!

Giving can be to give your child some much needed attention because you love them, not because they did their chores and deserve the attention.

Giving can be as little or as big as you want it to be. And giving is to do it without wanting to be praised in return because you gave or because it was the holidays and you want everyone to see how much you gave.

And then think about the person/animal you gave to. How will it make them feel. Yes, they may be hesitant at first but it may just cause a ripple effect and help them open their eyes and cause them to give something as well. You might not even know you gave something to someone. Just SMILE!

Stay tuned for a review of a book all about giving and it's effects!

  1. I love this. Giving is so important and teaching it to our children through the way that we interact with them. I love it!

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
