#Flats Challenge, Day 6 - #MAM

The 3rd Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge is almost over.  We have made it to day 6!  Being the weekend it is once again an open topic day for the bloggers who are participating so you will have to visit their blogs to see what they are writing about today.

=============
 Ooowee, I'm kinda glad that the challenge is over. I've read and know a few moms who stopped the challenge early. And I kinda wish I was one of them. I saw that some of the babies got ill, but it was Mami who got sick! It was a horrible night for me, not to mention is was stormy last night so I couldn't hang the diapers out this morning cus it was still muggy and bugs flying everywhere. But that's a good thing cus this mama is resting. Annaleah is taking a nap right now and she's gone through 4 flats today so far. My muscles ache and she gave me a hard time changing her, so I haven't been using the snappi cus I don't wanna scratch her by accident.

I had so much planned today... it&…

#FlatsChallenge: Day 5 - It Worked!

The question, “What is working” for the Flats and Handwashing Challenge also implies that there are certain things that just aren’t.

=============
Can't believe that the challenge is almost over. I did not wash any flats today.... mami got sick! I've been mopy all day and almost put a disposable diaper on her. Hubby did take the girls out to dinner so I could rest and he doesn't wanna tell me if he used a disposable or not! But if he did, one disposable is better than 8 a day.

Washing once/day has worked for us. If I washed at every change I'd be washing all day! I'm so glad that I don't have to use my large wetbag for the flats, I do well with just a medium size.

No Pins - I have a set oftwo and I only used them once. Probably just because I'm lazy, but the fold stays and if you put the diaper cover on correctly you won't have a problem either.

Prefolding - The first two days I didn't prefold, I folded as I went, but then Tuesday was super busy so afte…

#FlatsChallenge, Day 4 - The Washing!

On the fourth day of the Flats and Handwashing Challenge the topic I and the other bloggers linking up will be discussing is an important one- the handwashing part.

=================
Here we are on Day 4.... and with a post that a lot of readers are waiting for! The handwashing!

You know, a lot of people say and complain about this part, but I find it...
RelaxingA great work-outAn escapeTheraputicFun  Yeah, I'm weird. And it's not hard to do at all.

First, as you change your baby, put the flats and covers in your wetbag. I'm just using a medium size wetbag because flats are not bulky at all and when I use a cover, I just wipe and reuse the cover for the next changing and just put the flat in there.

Next, you gotta figure out when you are going to wash your flats. You can either wash them as you go (I think this might waste a tad more water) or you can wash them at the end of the day or the next morning.

Then, it's time to get your hands dirty. There are a few different wa…

#FlatsChallenge, Day 3 - Day in the Life

Day 3 means we are almost halfway through our 7 day challenge to use flats and handwash for 7 days. This week there are over 60 bloggers participating who have been linking their posts and today instead of there being a prompt for writing they are picking their own topic.

=============
Yeah! We've survived through day two and have combated day three! Today is Open Topic Day, so I decided to talk/write about our day today in the flats and handwashing challenge and being a stay-at-home mom/blogger! I did a vlog earlier today, actually two, and let me tell ya, it was a busy day.

7:30 AM - Woken up by my 8 year old, Yvette. She is my alarm clock. I kinda love it. I've never really had an alarm cloth that I used daily. But she has woken me up every day since she started school four years ago! Anywho... then my 4 year old climbs into bed with us and she goes back to sleep until I come back from dropping off my daughter.

8:00 AM - I'm back home and I grab the flat diapers from the…

#FlatsChallenge 2013 - Day 1, To Save!

On the first day of the 3rd Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge our topic of discussion is “Why take the Challenge?”

===============
TO SAVE MONEY!
Plain and simple... that is why we started using cloth in the first place. Flats were one of the first type of diapers I bought. I have about 30 flats. I bought some from Ross on clearance for $2.99 (6pk!), some from Kmart, on sale for $5 (6pk) and then traded some online for some of my newborn prefolds.

So, as you can see.... Flats are extremely affordable!

Flats are also customizable and so many folds out there to learn. I don't know anyone that used flats back in the day. My grandma used prefolds and my grandma actually gave me one of the prefolds used on me when I was a baby! I gotta share that pic some day. I think it's on my twitter feed.

Anywho, so you can just use a flat with a snappie, boingo or pins. And then cover the babies bum with a water proof cover.

Tada! You're ready to go!

I would estimate that it would cost…

The Mami Blog is taking the #FlatsChallenge

Challenge starts, or started, May 20th, today. We are ready to go. Still time to sing up, here is some info from Kim @ The Dirty Diaper Laundry...

The3rd Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge begins this Monday, May 20 and will go until the evening of May 26.  As a quick reminder, this event will involve hundreds of families from all over the world; they have signed on to only use flat cloth diapers and handwash them for 7 days.  That’s why we say “No Washer.  No Dryer.  No Problem.”  On the surface this event may seem like fun and games (well, as much fun as handwashing dirty diapers can be!) but the goal is to prove that cloth diapers are possible in almost any situation.  1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers for their babies but flats are the cheapest diapering option available and they are easily handwashed and air dried, unlike other styles of cloth diapers.

If you have decided you would like to participate but think you won’t have time to get prepared, have no fear…
