Just ONE Cheer! - MAAM Parade

Hope ya'll had a great 4th of July! Here in Texas it was a beautiful day, nice n hot! And on a side note, I obviously did not do the HEB match-ups this week. We had a great day. The parade was amazing. I had Angie and Norma join me in walking the parade, raising awareness about GMO's. It was great that we were able to be in the parade. My girls and hubby joined me also. We got their outfits last year on clerance at the outlets for $1.99 and $2.99. Yvettes and Annaleahs were from Carters @ $2.99 and Eliadas outfit is from Oshgosh fro $1.99 and her's came with the shorts!

We were entry #65 in the parade, and there were over 100 floats and "walkers" at the parade. We even got to see some of it after we finished walking. As we walked we really didn't know what to chant. We said "N-O GMO" most of the time. I threw in "Happy 4th of July" a few times and my oldest, Yvette found pom poms and she was doing cheers infront of us. Eliada got tired and daddy ended up carrying her most of the time. Thanks to hubs for carrying the rest of the posters too! My favorite was "Save Mom's Apple Pie."

The most exciting part was when someone in the growd yelled out "HELL NO GMO!" The whole area and us started screaming and "woo-ing" as hubby says. We got really excited and glad that there were bystanders that knew about GMO's. We had a few other "woo's" as we walked the route. It was only .6 miles but we had to wait as the parade started, so that took a toll on us. I thought Annaleah would had falled asleep, but once we crossed the "finish line" and I put her in the mie-tie carrier, she passed out!

It was great to hear the MC call us out as we walked through the bleachers where the Mayor and other honorable guests were seated. After we finished walking the parade we took a great group photo and passed out some Free Movie Passes for the Fooducation Movie Series, hosted by Lebby, the Fooducator and some GMO-FREE Lollipops and UnJunked candies to families. It was great seeing my 8 year old going up to families and saying "Excuse me..." these are "GMO-FREE." So proud!

Next march is... October 13th, 2013! World Food Day! Still debating if I should make a seperate facebook page where I can share GMO info and march information, get donations and such. What do ya'll think? Leave a comment of let me know on my FB page.

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
