The Mami Blog is taking the #FlatsChallenge

Challenge starts, or started, May 20th, today. We are ready to go. Still time to sing up, here is some info from Kim @ The Dirty Diaper Laundry...

The 3rd Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge begins this Monday, May 20 and will go until the evening of May 26.  As a quick reminder, this event will involve hundreds of families from all over the world; they have signed on to only use flat cloth diapers and handwash them for 7 days.  That’s why we say “No Washer.  No Dryer.  No Problem.”  On the surface this event may seem like fun and games (well, as much fun as handwashing dirty diapers can be!) but the goal is to prove that cloth diapers are possible in almost any situation.  1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers for their babies but flats are the cheapest diapering option available and they are easily handwashed and air dried, unlike other styles of cloth diapers.

If you have decided you would like to participate but think you won’t have time to get prepared, have no fear!  I’v got some tips to get you started.  You can sign-up and read the rules on the announcement post: Rules and Sign-up.

If you plan to blog along there will be a prompt for each day of the Challenge to write on. They are as follows:

Monday:  Why did you decide to take the Flats and Handwashing Challenge? To Save
Tuesday:  How did you Prepare?  List your supplies, where you bought them, how you made them, how much you paid, etc. $30.49
Wednesday: Open Topic Day - Day in the Life!
Thursday: Thoughts on Handwashing- How am I doing?
Friday- What is working for me?  What isn’t? Worked for us
Saturday- Open Topic Day - #MAM
Sunday- What did I learn/ How did it go?  Do I think others could do this and how could they make it work? SUCCESS!
 ==========
The daily topics are great. If you are even considering using cloth this is a great time to scope out all the blogs that are participating! Flats is a great way to start.
Oh! And Wednesday is Open Topic Day... any ideas? Leave your ideas below.
Got our flats prepped and ready to go. Weekend has been crazy but I'm actually glad that the week is going to start cus I actually have some good to do this week. Trying to help plan a March for Monsanto for this weekend! Eeek, I'm going to make some calls and if it won't work, oh well. Maybe my hubby and I will take a drive up to Corpus for the weekend to participate in that one!
I guess an update on the family cus I haven't blogged about personal issues lately! Eliada finally has a good schedule for her speech therapy, so that's great. Yvette has two weeks left till summer vacation. She's glad to be done with another year. Trying to get her interested in something that she is passionate about. She did sing in the Church Choir for Mother's Day, that was a treat, and she really liked it and wants to continue.
Come back tomorrow to see Why we decided to take the flats and handwashing challenge!

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
