#FlatsChallenge, Day 7 - Learning Experience

Today is the last day of the #FlatsChallenge... and have I washed any diapers today?? Of course not! And I got two poopy diapers! Oh joy! I'm gonna go soak them in a bit, haha. BUT....

WHAT DID I LEARN?

Even though we took this challenge last year, this year I did a little experimenting. I soaked the diapers with BioKleen (a stain and odor eliminator) and I'm glad I used it! It was also good that I would kinda forget about the washing that they were left soaking a bit longer than I would intend them to be, but they smelled cleaner in the end!

I also learned to hold on them them while hanging them on the outside clothes-line! Yup, a few days ago it rained, and I dropped two covers.... oh joy, I had to rewash them!

And the as for saving money... we will see in about a week if we saved any money on our water bill! I'm pretty positive that we did, so that will be exciting! This Mami loves saving money, that is for sure.

And another main reason for doing the challenge was to share the option of cloth with the locals! And I'm excited to say that I added three new members to my cloth diaper group (now 30+ members strong!) and I have another local "interested" in using cloth and two more have actually bought cloth but never used them AND, yes, another AND, another who emailed me from talking to me when I was a vendor at the "Head To Toe Women's Expo!" So yeah me!

This challenge was a SUCCESS! And with the two days Mami was sick, I'm sure hubby used a disposable, I would still consider it a success. Wouldn't you?

================

Now that the challenge is over.... WHAT NOW?

Will you still use FLATS? Heck yeah! They are fast drying, cheap, do the job and super fun to fold! I folded way more different folds than I did last year, excited to share them with you in the next month or two. And flats have always been in my stash! I normally use them as a liner to catch poop, or just as more absorbancy.

Will you still wash by hand? I think I may challenge myself to wash by hand on the weekends or something. But first I wanna see if I can buy a washboard and tub! Who's with me? And I'm actually talking about all of our laundry! I usually do just 1-3 loads during the weekend, so it wouldn't be that much. Even if I do just flats by hand, that would free up space in my washer and give more room for my diapers and wash easier, wouldn't you think?

WHAT DID YOU LEARN?

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
