#FlatsChallenge, Day 4 - The Washing!

On the fourth day of the Flats and Handwashing Challenge the topic I and the other bloggers linking up will be discussing is an important one- the handwashing part.

=================

Here we are on Day 4.... and with a post that a lot of readers are waiting for! The handwashing!

You know, a lot of people say and complain about this part, but I find it...
  1. Relaxing
  2. A great work-out
  3. An escape
  4. Theraputic
  5. Fun
 Yeah, I'm weird. And it's not hard to do at all.

First, as you change your baby, put the flats and covers in your wetbag. I'm just using a medium size wetbag because flats are not bulky at all and when I use a cover, I just wipe and reuse the cover for the next changing and just put the flat in there.

Next, you gotta figure out when you are going to wash your flats. You can either wash them as you go (I think this might waste a tad more water) or you can wash them at the end of the day or the next morning.

Then, it's time to get your hands dirty. There are a few different ways you can wash your diapers, in a pale/bucket, tub, sink or a wash tub (outdoors). Then you need the "tool" that will be used to "wash" your diapers. You can use a plunger, old school laundry fork/spoon/paddle, or your good old hands (with gloves if you have them). And of course you'll need the detergent you will be using. I pretty much use the same routine I do in the washer. Rinse in cold, wash in hot and then extra rinses until water is clear and not suddsy.

Finally, ring out all the excess water and hang to dry! Here in Texas we hang them outside on the clothes line and they are done within less than 20 minutes! Plus, the sun also sanitizes and helps them stay white and get rid of stains.

I have a video below of my wash routine from last year (feel free to skip through some parts) and Eliada is helping! It's pretty much the same for this year.

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
