Home Organizing Challenge: Day #3

I was blog hopping the other day and stumbled onto A bowl full of lemons Blog and I subscribed right away! I saw that she had done a Organized challenge in 2011 and thought I would tackle it this month. Already a week into it, but last week was kinda hectic. Although I'd love to organize the house in 21 Days, I think I'm going to make it a little more realistic for my life and do it in about 40 days (Lent), hopefully less. So, plan on taking two days to finish each challenge. I haven't gone through all of them, but I know some of them will only take one day, where as others will take two days. I'm not going to push myself, but I do want it done well before Yvette gets out of school for the summer. I have already been working on getting organized. Yesterday I reorganized 1/2 of the kitchen cabinets and I have reorganized under the sink, but gotta redo that cus my mom took some items out.

Anyone want to join in? Leave a comment on what you did or a link to your post and I will add it in the "Featured" section of the next challenge to showcase how we're doing! Feel free to also share photos on my fan page, The Mami Blog. I'm just going to keep the daily challenges the same as ABFoL to make it easier on me... LET'S DO THIS! You can see my progress HERE.

So lets show some pics from Day #2 shall we!

Totally forgot to take a before photo.... but here (above) is one that I snapped after clearning out half of the desk. there was also a stack of photo albums next the the printer. Can you see all that dust!? YUCK! Second pic is everything else that I had removed. My dining room table is still full of stuff that needs a new home! That shouldn't be too hard. I had a box of stuff to donate, another was just school supplies, recipes and photo albums.

AFTER! Looks pretty good! On the left is some books I'm reading (and hubby's comics that he said I had to leave there, lol) along with my Scentsy Cupcake Warmer and office supplies. Tucked in the back (Pink n Brown accordion filer) has our important documents like birth certificates and taxes. I have a basket that has tape and spale refils and thumb tacks too. I want to find a peg board to cut and put as the "back splash." On the right is the mail center and my coupon spot as well as paper and ink storage. I found a photo behind the printer of hubby and I on our "Back-Yard" wedding day! I need a frame for that and then there is a Photo Book I got from Shutterfly when we took our first family vacation when Eliada was a year old.

AND.... I actually had a hard time deciding what to put back on my desk. But I like how it turned out! I had a bunch of mail and trash that I just threw away.

Now on to business…
Day #3  Organizing those messy tupperware cabinets!

Today my challenge for you is to organize your tupperware cabinets.  This may be a cabinet where you hold your mixing bowls, leftover containers, baking dishes, and everything in between (not just tupperware).  You do NOT have to organize more than one cabinet today (unless you want to).

Here’s the challenge…

1.  Take a picture of the chaos!

2.  Empty it out (onto the floor or counter). Grab your favorite cleaner and wipe out the dust and grime.

3.  Stand back and look at all you have accumilated and kiss A LOT of it goodbye, because…

4.  YOU DONT USE HALF OF IT!  So,  start purging into the donation station or trash.

5. Once you have gone through and separated, now you can start categorizing… like items with like items.

6.  Organizing bins or baskets are a great tool in this cabinet to keep the chaos under control. Keep that in mind, so go find some.

7. Now you can put everything back. I’m so proud of you! Look how “neat” it looks.

8. Your finished.  Take a picture and hurry back to show us your beautiful cabinets!

If you are new to the challenge, click on the button below to see what it’s all about and join in!

  1. Way to go! I know that cleaning a desk area takes a long time because you have to decided what to do with all the paper. . . Looks great.

    1. Oh yeah... I recycled a lot of it and had to shred the important docs a little at a time! Thanks

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
