*Guest Post* Homemade Laundry Detergent

Hope ya'll are having a great Holiday with family and friends. I think we're having a great time! ((These posts are scheduled)) We are out of town and I hope you enjoy this post from Amanda at Simple Saving Savvy. Thanks to Amanda for sharing her recipe with us. I think ya'll will love it and if you try it out let us know! I have also wanted to make my own fabric softner. I usually don't use any, but when hubby decides to wash his own clothes (once every few months or so) he goes out and pays full price for that stuff. If you have a recipe that you like to use, feel free to share it with us. Click HERE to see the original post. Enjoy & Merry Christmas!  - Cinella

Recipe for Homemade Powdered Laundry Detergent

1 bar  Fels-Naptha (grated finely)
1 1/2 cups Borax
1 1/2 cups Washing Soda
Mix all ingredients thoroughly and store in an airtight container. Use 1-2 tablespoons per load of laundry.
Your total cost for the batch will be around $2.19. If you use 2 tablespoons per load, you’ll get 36 loads out of the batch which works out to just $0.06 per load.
If you would like, you can also add 1 cup of oxi-clean to the mix to increase stain removing ability. This will increase your cost to about $0.08 per load.

Big Batch Homemade Powdered Laundry Detergent

1 box Borax (4lb 12oz) $4
1 box Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (3lbs, 7oz) $4
3 bars Fels-Naptha @ $0.99 each = $2.97
1 tub Oxi-Clean $6 (optional)
Efficient and Time Saving Tips
  • Transfer the Borax and Washing Soda into containers that are easier to work with. This makes it easier to scoop out the amount you need rather than trying to pour it our of the cardboard box without making a mess. It also makes for better storage. Be sure to label your containers for safety.
Laundry Detergent Ingredients
  • Freeze the fels-naptha ahead of time. It makes grating easier.
  • Run the fels-naptha through your food processor to create a finer texture that mixes better.
  • If you choose the big batch method, I would suggest mixing it in small batches and then transfer to larger container. Otherwise it will be hard to stir and create alot of dust.

Ungrateful during Thanksgiving?

Hubby made me cry on Thanksgiving.... The usual share what you're thankful for, he just went all out talking about how we had one of the toughest years and we were apart from each other for six months and how much he missed us and it just sucked. Ohhhh, the waterfalls!! But yeah, it was the longest year ever. Speaking of Thanksgiving.... HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Reminds me of something that's been on my mind....

We just moved out of the valley and guess what?! The worst part moving to a new place was not the moving. Before we moved I scoped out our neighborhood, grocery stores, parks and I joined several mom groups. I knew negative Nancy’s were bound to share their troubles in Facebook groups but I’ve never heard so many complaints in one day.

I don’t know what it is but I don’t like when people complain. I just think to myself, “Did you really have to share that?” or about an easy solution to that complaint. There would have been a better way to spend your time than writing a n…
