I'm back & Doing Something!

Yeah, I know... 2 weeks no blogging, wow! I think that's the most I've gone. But I come back because I couldn't pass up letting ya'll know about DoSomething.org. It's an 11 Days challenge where you do something (at least 3) with your children/family to experience what families have to go through everyday and then blog/share your experience with everyone.

Today is already Day 3 and today's challenge is:
  • Live below the line. Spend 1.50 or less today. Send in photos of what you used your money for.
  • Use Bing to find your local food pantry. Donate 5 items of food.
  • ULTRAbonus: Find out what your slavery footprint is by visiting www.slaveryfootprint.org and share your results.
I just signed up and created a team "Mom Bloggers" but you don't have to be a blogger, just report your actions and/or challenges that you complete!

Check out that website (slaveryfootprint.org) it is VERY interesting!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Challenge: Live below the line
Today as I was reading about the challenge and telling my 7 year old about todays' challenge, she was very smart and saying that if we "drive" anywhere that is spending money. And we really didn't want to make this hard, because it isn't. People just think they have to "Go" somewhere to have fun or to do something. So we decided to GARDEN! It's something that we have our whole family participate and it creates a sustainable life-style for our family. We only have herbs in our garden right now, but it is so nice outside in Texas today and the girls love to play outside. So, we probably spend about $.50 in water to water the herbs and then we just removed some weeds and raked some leaves and branches that had fallen yesterday because it was windy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you have completed the challenge head on over to DoSomething.org and "Report it."

GOOD LUCK!

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
