I am taking part in the Second Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry. For 7 days I will be using only flat cloth diapers and handwashing them in an effort to prove that cloth diapering can be affordable and accessible to all. You can learn more about the rules and why this challenge was started by visiting the announcement post. This year there are over 450 participants from all over the world!
It's Monday evening and the challenge is now OVER! I bet most of the families who participated are so glad that it's over, but actually, I'm not! And guess what?! I'm going to continue to HAND-WASH! Crazy, right?!
Well, first let me tell ya how Day 6 went! We were suppose to have a busy day, but my oldest got a bit sick and didn't feel so well. So we just chillaxed and didn't go out. I did laundry, washed some flats and then I took a nap! That was an awesome 2 hour nap... hey, pregnant women need their rest! Then I went shopping and that was lots of fun. If you don't know, I use coupons and I got over $50 of product for about $2 and change.
But Day 7 was even more exciting. We did more shopping, almost all day! Eli did great with her potty training while we were out. She wore a Thirsties Wrap and a flat of course, and didn't get it wet. My grandma had been wanting to take me to buy some maternity clothes, check out one of the pieces I got!
It's a cut little dress that I actually wore today (Monday). I'm 26 weeks in case you're wondering :-D
Okay, so now about the challenge... Like I said, I'm going to continue hand-washing and using flats! Now if I had a newborn or a baby, I probably wouldn't be... but Eli is already 3 and nearly potty trained, so she doesn't poop or pee in the diapers much. She should be done in about another week. So it's failry easy for me to keep the flats in the wetbag for like 2-3 days and there will only be 2-3 flats in there, which again, is easy to wash in the bathroom sink.
Thoughts: This is a great way for any family to save!! I have been able to reuse and find very cheap flats and I always recommend Thirsties Outlet to buy from or any online store (or local if you are lucky) that has a "seconds" section. Love saving!
FLATS AND HAND-WASHING CHALLENGE = SUCCESS!
