#Flats Challenge - Day 4 & 5

I am taking part in the Second Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry. For 7 days I will be using only flat cloth diapers and handwashing them in an effort to prove that cloth diapering can be affordable and accessible to all. You can learn more about the rules and why this challenge was started by visiting the announcement post. This year there are over 450 participants from all over the world!

Ohhh boy! This weekend was fun and tiring! As you may have noticed with the lack of updates for the #FlatsChallenge! But I did upload a video about my handwashing routine!

And that brings me to the topic.... “How I’m Doing- My Thoughts on Handwashing

GREAT! To sum it up, just check out my YouTube video on how I washed this week (just once)!

Then, I'm going to squeeze in Day 5 into this post! “What Tips I have Learned So Far

  1. Use a PUL Cover
  2. Learn a new fold
  3. Tuck everything in!
  4. Pre-rinse
Handwashing was super easy and guess what?! I'm still going to do it until Eli is 100% potty trained! But like I said, I'm going to use these tips from what I learned during the challenge.

Using a PUL cover is much easier than using a pocket because the pocket will usually get wet. The PUL cover you can just wipe down and can reuse if it wasn't too wet (or you can just switch out every other cover).
I learned like 5 new folds and they all came in hand in different situations.... that way you can see which fold you like best. I used the pad fold and the diaper bag fold most often. Both the diaper bag & pad fold is great for on the go, because you can pre-fold and won't get too unraveled when you are ready to put it on the baby.
And yes.... TUCK & TUCK! I had one t-shirt leak because the top flap of the diaper fold was sticking out. This can easily happen with the leg gussets!
Pre-rinse just helps with the smell before you start washing, haha. As you see in the video, I had one very good pee'd flat that was a good one and that was one reason why I rinsed two times and the smell went down drastically!

So, stay tuned for days 6 & 7!

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
