!!HAPPY EARTH DAY!!


Happy Earth day to everyone! I hope ya'll have a cool, clean and eco-friendly day! Take a walk in the park and breath in some fresh air, I know we are. I am so sad that there is not a Great Cloth Diaper Change location near me. But I did find out some good new about a Breast Feeding Cafe (read below for more info) in the area, how cool is that. It is kinda irritating, but that's another post!

I wanted to share some local events that are happening so you and your family can enjoy your day:

Check out the Quinta Mazatlan 2012 Vida Verde event! Tons of things happening there. There is a $2 fee for adults and $1 for children. And it's right near the mall and other shopping centers if you want to get yourself some FREE Reusable bags as well.

Need some fresh veggies? Check out the Grow'n Growers Farmers Market is in San Juan tomorrow from 9 to noon. There is a map to the park on their Facebook page. Also the Baby Café for pregnant and nursing moms is at the same time. Here's a link with more info: http://co.hidalgo.tx.us/

Edinburg Scenic Wetlands: Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.: They'll have crafts, teaching you how to make reusable bags out of Tshirts. That sounds so cool! Check out their FB Page to!

For the Mid-valley, in Weslaco, there's a bird walk from 8:30 to 10:30 am at Estero Llano Grande Park

In Brownsville, there's EarthFest, which starts tonight (Friday, April 20). Click HERE for more information.


Laguna Vista will host a free Saturday event in Roloff Park starting at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., participants will walk to the city’s new Trails Park, picking up trash along the way and learning about recycling. Back at Roloff Park and poetry reading and Picnic for the Plant featuring healthy foods and beverages will start at 11:30 a.m.

Port Isabel: The Isabel Y. Garcia Animal Shelter will host an Earth Day celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help.
