Our Dezi

I always wanted a dog growing up. But my parents always said that my sister and I would take care of it. My mom always had a pet growing up, but she stood with my dad and said no. I remember when I use to walk to school a little brown dog would follow us as we walked to school. That was the only time I remember wanting to go to school, haha.

When I met my husband and went to meet his family, everyone had a dog. Hubs dog was huge, to me. And he said he had him since he was a little boy. He was so protective of him but it was cool when the dog finally warmed up to me after only a few visits. I told him that if we ever got serious I would want a dog.

Before we knew it my daughter was turning 2 and hubs bought us a beagle! DEZI! Oh she was a hand full at first, but we loved her. She was just a doll... We kept her inside and she learned tricks as long as we had a treat to give her and she basically house trained herself. We took her when we went to the park or on vacation. She was just the best dog. Our girls loved her.

We were so happy with our dog. She didn't bark too much, she did not jump on people, she was just great with the girls.

But 5 years later she stopped being herself. It so sucked that we didn't have money saved up to take her to the doctor. One night when we went out to eat she didn't even want get up and say bye. Hubs and I knew that she was close. We came back from eating and she was at the door to greet us.

BUT... later that evening when hubs came to bed. He told me when he went to go check on her she was gone. I cried for what felt like hours. He stayed up and burried her because he didn't want the girls to see her "gone."

We have gone throught 2 other dogs and we still miss Dezi and she will never be replaced....

  1. It's so hard to lose a pet ... they become part of the family. Dezi was so cute! I had a cat for 20 years ... she lived with me longer than any other being (human or otherwise). It hurt a lot when I lost her! Even though you still miss Dezi & I'm sure that you still feel pain over her passing ... still ... wasn't it just the best thing ever to be loved by her? Thanks for sharing a bit about Dezi with us!

  2. I'm so sorry for your loss. We recently had to put down my childhood dog, so I know what you are going through.
