Hey local fans! Tomorrow is the Grand Opening of the newly relocated McAllen Public Library! After the "Main Library" was in business for over 50 years it finally closed its doors a few weeks ago and the new location is now ready for business.
McAllen Memorial Library (the official name of the Main Library) opened on November 12, 1932, in a room at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. The fledgling library grew rapidly, relocating to the First Baptist Church and then to the Archer Park Bandstand to meet space demands. It remained in the basement of the Bandstand for nearly 15 years, until May 28, 1950, the day the present location on Main and Fir Streets was dedicated and opened to the public. - Historical NoteThe new library is located where the old Wal-Mart use to be (4001 N. 23rd Street) You can read more about the new location and it's 230,000 square feet in space HERE!
Here is a pic of what you may be able to get your hands a hold of these goodies! Be sure to be there before 10am when the ceremony begins (there will only be a limited supply).
