CTWW - Light It Up!

hange The World Wednesday is hosted by Reduce Footprints, an awesome blog that I came across through the Green Blog Hop and jumped right into the challenge. I plan to participate every week and hope to inspire and spread the word so that others can participate as well. If you participate, just leave a comment on the current challenge and you will get featured on the following weeks challenge. You can learn all about it HERE

This Week's Challenge:

This week's challenge comes from Rachel. She suggests that we revist an old challenge ... with a twist. Here you go:

This week, replace at least one incandescent bulb in your home with either a CFL or LED bulb.

OR ...

If you accomplished this challenge when we first ran it in July of 2009 (or before) ... or if you felt, at that time, that you couldn't participate ... we'd like to know how it's gone since then. Are you using Eco-friendly bulbs ... why or why not? Do you prefer CFLs or LEDs ... and why? If you're using Eco-friendly bulbs, have you noticed a decrease in your electric bill? Do you recycle bulbs ... if so, where? We'd like to know where you're at now in regards to light bulbs.

UP THE ANTE (On the Halloween challenge): Argentum Vulgaris challenges us further. Here it is: Don’t buy anything that is used only once for Hallowe’en! Make, or use what you have. Who's going to take him up on this one??

------------------------------------------

I love this challenge. WE only have 2 bulbs that are not CFL's. And I have coupons for them ($1 off from the All You Magazine)! And yes, from all of the other changes we have made, thanks to CTWW our electric bill has dropped nearly $100 compared to a few years ago. It's great savings.

Only thing we are working on now is getting a brand that will last longer than a year. We have talked to a few contracters about it and most say that it might be our electricity company and we are having surges of power who are blowing the lights out. And yes, we experience power overload/shortages at least once a week.

So we will be calling our electric company to see what they can tell us. If we are paying more money for bulbs that should be lasting longer. So I'll keep ya'll updated.

***HALLOWEEN***
We hardly ever buy Halloween decorations, we love making things with our girls. haven't planned what we will do this year, maybe just carving a pumpkin or making some window decorations. But yeah, we love having that quality time with our girls, yes, hubs too, where we just sit down on the living room floor on a Saturday evening and have fun!

So what do you think ... ready to take on this challenge?

Until next time ...

WE'RE CHANGING THE WORLD ... ONE CHALLENGE AT A TIME!

Comments

  1. Wow ... I never thought about power surges causing CFLs to burn out faster. It'll be interesting to learn what your electric company has to say about that ... I would imagine that it's highly inefficient and causes problems for a lot of electrical devices. Hopefully they'll have a good suggestion or plans to fix their surge problems. Let us know how it goes, okay?

    Thanks for posting about it!

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
