Change The World Wednesday is hosted by Reduce Footprints, an awesome blog that I came across through the Green Blog Hop and jumped right into the challenge. I plan to participate every week and hope to inspire and spread the word so that others can participate as well. If you participate, just leave a comment on the current challenge and you will get featured on the following weeks challenge. You can learn all about it HERE!

Last weeks challenge was to WALK! And Walk we did... we got sooo tired over the weekend, it wasn't funny. Haha. So it was hubs birthday weekend and we visited our local college and walked and walked during their science celebration called HESTEC. It was so interesting and we all learned something new and also got to see the famous annual Magic Show that the students put on. We had a blast.

I hope ya'll enjoyed some RAYS while you did some walking last week. Our weather was perfect. We had some rain on Saturday afternoon, but it cleared up just in time for the festivities.

This Week's Challenge:

This week's challenge comes from Jen:

Halloween is coming up so ... this week consider the environmental impact of the treats we give out and offer suggestions for better alternatives. Let's expand on Jen's idea and include parties, costumes, etc.

OR ...

If you don't celebrate Halloween, please offer us some ideas for Eco-friendly snacks and entertaining.

Are you up for this challenge? I know that you are! Thanks to Jen for the idea!!

Ready for our mantra? Here we go ...

Great Challenge Jen! We celebrate Dia de los Muertos, it's a tradition and a highly celebrated holiday in our area. We do however still make treats for local parties and such. But we don't pass out candies on Halloween night. We go and visit the dead, say prayers, sing songs, it's so much fun.

We do however go treak-or-treating for the kids. It's fun for mommy & daddy to, i'll admit. We go with some family who have kids similar ages and we enjoy some good conversations, laughs and just fun as the kids walk a head of us as they trick-or-treat. And yes, we walk. We usually pick a local neighbor hood to visit and it's just tons of fun.

So my tip would to NOT give candy, give something that they can use. Maybe a ruler (fairly cheap) or I have even seen people give out fortune cookies for some fun & humor. My mom and grandma use to do apple bobbing. That was fun. Or one year we did a small haunted house just for fun as well. I had a good friend of mine give out planners! Yeah, yearly/monthly planners! They found them on sale for $.15 at a local office supply store.

Some Eco-friendly tips would to maybe organize a trick-or-treat "area" for the whole nieghborhood, like your local park and maybe even throw a block party where everyone made one dish instead of going outside of your neighbor hood to other bigger parties. Another tip would to use real dishes! I know it would be a hassel washing afterwards, but we have all pitched in to help clean up afterwards and that is a party on it's own!

I hope ya'll have a great holiday season!

  1. I really like the idea of block parties for Halloween ... fun for kids and adults. And the "treats" could be so much healthier. Toss in a few fun activities for kids and wow ... fabulous event!

    Great ideas, Cinella!!

Ungrateful during Thanksgiving?

Hubby made me cry on Thanksgiving.... The usual share what you're thankful for, he just went all out talking about how we had one of the toughest years and we were apart from each other for six months and how much he missed us and it just sucked. Ohhhh, the waterfalls!! But yeah, it was the longest year ever. Speaking of Thanksgiving.... HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Reminds me of something that's been on my mind....

We just moved out of the valley and guess what?! The worst part moving to a new place was not the moving. Before we moved I scoped out our neighborhood, grocery stores, parks and I joined several mom groups. I knew negative Nancy’s were bound to share their troubles in Facebook groups but I’ve never heard so many complaints in one day.

I don’t know what it is but I don’t like when people complain. I just think to myself, “Did you really have to share that?” or about an easy solution to that complaint. There would have been a better way to spend your time than writing a n…
