Saving and Giving

This week I'm starting something new. I got the link from The Frugal Mom about Jennifer and her Saving and Giving blog. So each month I will be participating with her about spreading the word of "Saving and Giving."

Most of you don't know but I am the owner/moderator of my area Freecycle. I see the kind hearts of my area that want to give and offer their things to other to reuse or give a new use to. I have seen many people give to young and new moms the much needed items like clothes and toys; I have seen people offer fans when the Texas summer heat gets to be too much; I have seen people give school supplies when it comes to that time of the year. My heart gets so happy to see so many people be so generous.

But this is not my story; here's my story.....
This month for my family and I has been so hectic. August 1st was my daughters birthday (I reused my 5 month olds formula cans to decorate the tables) and then my 5 month old started solids and then my now 5 year old started Kinder!! There was so much happening. Finally I kinda got settled in. On September 1st I had to get back into gear, I told myself. I got back to my routine of keeping up with household chores and my goal for the month (I have monthly goals that I set for myself) was to clean and organize the kitchen. My husband had installed the new dishwasher and I still had some birthday supplies and I had tons of baby food that I had bought. I also wanted to move the bakers rack into the pantry because it was taking up space in the dining room.

So with that almost done I had gathered lots of stuff that was stuffed in the pantry and dining room. At the same time I had noticed that there was some "Wanted" ads in Freecycle for baby girl clothes. So I got that together as well as posted some "Offer" posts for a mini chopper, manual chopper, ice cube trays (because I hate to see others buying ice), and some purses. I have yet to get some responses, but I just posted them today.

I urge for you to visit Freecycle.org
to see what offers you can fulfill or
what you can offer!

Hickies: Back-to-School Series #1

Every Friday in the month of September I will share a few tips for making the transition for both kids and parents a bit easier. This first one is a doozie! HICKIES! Keep reading to learn what I'm talking about.... I try to buy my girls (i have 3 school-aged daughters) two or more pairs of shoes; an active shoe, which usually has laces, and a more casual/formal shoe, which usually doesn't have laces. Which ones do they choose to wear nearly every day to school? The ones that have shoe laces! Of course my oldes daughter, who's now 13, can tie her own shoes, but the other two still need help. And let's be real, even the oldest one I find myself nagging her to tie her laces correctly, she gets sloppy in the mornings at times. Here come HICKIES to save the day!

Hate tying your kids' shoes everyday before they step out of the house? Hate stopping to tie your own shoes mid-run? HICKIES products turn any pair of sneakers into convenient, comfortable, and stylish slip-on…
